Tanzania doing well in fightig corruption
18 December 2009- A recent study commissioned by ACT-Southern Africa found out that Tanzania is one of the African countries that has put in place an effective anti-corruption drive calculated to eliminate the scourge of corruption. However, the country should strengthen its institutional framework to combat corruption, especially ensuring that there is separation of powers. Also needed is the enhancement of transparency and clarity of duties and responsibilities. Read More
Failure or refusal to investigate the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe undermines the credibility of GNU
The Office of the Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai was served with a petition signed by 8 organisations, calling upon the Prime Minister to set up an independent Commission of Enquiry into the conduct of the bank and its principal officials. The 8 signatories include: Africa Action, ACT-Southern Africa, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe, Human Rights Institute of South Africa, National Society for Human Rights, Non-Violent Action and Strategies for Social Change, PASSOP and Zimbabwe Exiles Forum. The allegations against the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe are detailed in the LETTER and PETITION handed to the Prime Minister through Minister Gorden Moyo. The next step will be to take the matter to court through a court application.
Two elections that awarded the losers- Kenyan and Zimbabwean experiences
ACT-Southern Africa released a report titled: Rewarding the Losers- A Case Study of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). In the report, ACT-Southern Africa is calling for reform of the electoral system and prosecution of all those implicated in electoral rigging and violence.
